  • Modern components - Greater product longevity
  • A single user interface for multiple control modules
  • Increased modularity - Easily serviced on site
  • Numerical set-points (more precise than turning a dial)
  • Precise numerical voltage / current limits
  • High resolution of control at low outputs
  • Advanced interruption capability
  • Improved stability across diverse load conditions (especially at low output levels)
  • Inbuilt high and low current alarms
  • Inbuilt high and low reference alarms
  • Built-in volts / amps/ reference metering
  • RMCS ready

One of the main purposes for developing the Digital Control System was to allow the operator to view / adjust multiple different control modules from a single user interface which is otherwise known as the IOPanel. The only way to achieve this is by implementing a communications network within the Transformer Rectifier which allows the IOPanel to communicate with each of the various control modules installed. We have chosen to implement a high-speed CAN-Bus network to achieve this.

The Corrosion Electronics Digital Control System may consist of any or all of the following:

  • The User Interface (IOPanel)
  • DSM1050 Switch-Mode Power Supply Module (SMPS Module)
  • DPAC Phase Angle Control Module
  • Digital Reference Meter (DRM)
  • Reference Multiplexer Modules (RefMux)
  • RMCS Module

The User Interface (IOPanel)

IOPanelThe IOPanel is the user interface which is used to view or make changes to a controllable output located within a transformer rectifier.  The IOPanel is able to communicate with single or multiple DC outputs which can exist as either switch-mode or phase-angle control modules. The IOPanel affixes to a front panel of a transformer rectifier to provide convenient access to each of the control modules installed. Only one IOPanel module is required for each transformer rectifier regardless of how many different control modules exist within.

It is also important to note that the control modules operate autonomously and do not require the IOPanel in order to operate. In fact, if you were to turn the power off the IOPanel, the control modules in the TR will continue to operate just fine.

The IOPanel has the following features:

  • Communicates to any control module via an isolated high speed CAN Bus network.
  • Used to view / edit any of the control modules settings
  • Universal design allows the IOPanel to communicate with either SMPS modules and/or Phase Angle Control modules
  • Dedicated 'Output Select' buttons to easily toggle between control modules
  • Provides all necessary information on a control modules correct operation at a single glance
  • Inbuilt global alarm feature with integrated alarm relay

The DSM1050 SMPS Module

The DSM1050 Switch-Mode Power Supply is the most modern SMPS module that Corrosion Electronics offers and provides numerous features that were unavailable on our previous line of SMPS controllers. Housed in a sturdy steel enclosure with flat mounting or vertical mounting options the DSM1050 is a breeze to remove/install out on site if replacement should be necessary. Some of the features are as follows:

  • Capable of being powered from an AC (100-264 VAC) or DC (24 / 48 VDC) power source depending on the model variation
  • Integrated DC Fuse and Interrupt Relay
  • Inbuilt Power Factor Correction (AC Models)
  • High level of efficiency (85%  or greater - AC input / 90% or greater - DC Input) Note: measured at maximum applicable power output levels
  • Capable of power outputs up to 500 watts (50 VDC @ 10 ADC)
  • High resolution of control at low output levels (milli-amp control at current outputs less than 1 amp)
  • 4 modes of control to choose from (Constant Voltage / Constant Current / Constant Potential / Remote 4-20mA)
  • Advanced interruption capability
  • Excellent output stability across a diverse range of load conditions
  • Built in high/low current alarm and high/low reference alarm as standard features
  • RMCS ready

The DSM1050 connects onto the CAN Network within the TRU which allows it to be interrogated by items such as:

  • The TRU User Interface (IOPanel)
  • An RMCS Module to send / receive information to and from the RMCS web server
  • A PLC / SCADA monitoring system via an optional CAN - Modbus converter.

The DPAC Phase Angle Control Modules

The DPAC1P (single phase) and DPAC3P (3 phase) are our flagship phase angle control modules and represent the latest in digital control technology combined with a proven reliability in a rugged industrial environment. The module itself mounts securely on a standard DIN rail and contains convenient plug and socket terminal to make installing / removal a breeze. Some of this modules features are:

  • Modular Design - One board suits all applications
  • High resolution of control at lower output levels
  • 4 modes of control to choose from (Constant Voltage / Constant Current / Constant Potential / Remote 4-20mA)
  • Advanced interruption capability
  • Excellent output stability across a diverse range of load conditions
  • Built in high/low current alarm and high/low reference alarm as standard features
  • Can be used on outputs ranging from 1 amp to 1000 amps
  • RMCS ready

The DPAC modules connect onto the CAN Network within the TRU which allows it to be interrogated by items such as:

  • The TRU User Interface (IOPanel)
  • An RMCS Module to send / receive information to and from the RMCS web server
  • A PLC / SCADA monitoring system via an optional CAN - Modbus converter.

The Digital Reference Meter (DRM)

The Corrosion Electronics Digital Reference Meter offers exceptional accuracy together with a simple to use interface. Traditionally, Our reference meters would require several banks of mechanical rotary select switches in order to select individual references and display the reading to the meter. Our new system involves the use of reference multiplexer (RefMux) modules which automatically connect individual references to the DRM depending on which reference is selected via the 'Reference Select' dial situated on the front of the meter. The DRM has the following features:

  • Voltage Range of ± 5 VDC
  • Inbuilt high precision 16 bit analog to digital converter
  • Easy to calibrate on site if necessary
  • Inbuilt simultaneous 50/60 Hz AC rejection
  • Easily switch between references by turning a single dial
  • Instant-Off button facilitates easy measurement of Instant-Off potential for any selected reference
  • Programmable Instant-Off delay
  • Customisable reference titles
  • Used in conjunction with reference multiplexer modules for easy reference selection
  • RMCS ready

The RMCS Module

RMCS

One major advantage of having a CAN network within a TRU is how easily data can be sent / received by a control module. The RMCS module offered by Corrosion Electronics is responsible for obtaining readings and transmitting them over a cellular network to the web server. The RMCS module can also receive settings from the web server and send them to a control module if required. Some more of the RMCS module features are:

  • Capable of obtaining readings from up to 64 control modules and 300+ references in a single module
  • Easy to install / replace
  • Low cost yet extremely powerful
  • Small footprint
  • Uploads basic readings to a web server every 10 mins
  • Uploads reference readings once every hour
  • Able to receive commands from the web server in order to adjust settings at the TRU
  • Private IP address - Unable to accept incoming connections which means added security
